HERE WE COME!
Anaheim, California. We will join Sunoco Racing Fuels (NYSE:SUN) at the
Offroad Show at the Anaheim Convention Center on March 8, 2007. Sunoco is
quest for the SCORE 40+ championship in 2008. Jim Filanc, John Barnes and
Kent Richardson will present the 1967 Husqvarna for autographs and
photographs this coming Saturday at 10 AM at the Anaheim Convention
Center. John finished with Dick Hansen just 20 seconds behind JN Roberts in
that first Baja 1000 forty years ago. Both John and Dick joined Malcolm Smith
and JN Roberts competing in the 40th anniversary running of the Tecate
SCORE Baja 1000 last November, successfully finishing all 1296 miles the
world’s most grueling offroad race as part of the Racing For Life team. The
vintage 1967 Husqvarna is a replica of the original motorcycle to cross the
finish line in the first Baja 1000 as ridden by Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts,
then known as the Mexican 1000. The bike is currently on display at the San
Diego Automotive Museum as part of the exhibit commemorating the 40th
anniversary of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
John Barnes is a legend of the sport, having competed in numerous Baja
1000s and District 38 Hare and Hound races in the 1960s and ‘70s. The
Malcolm Smith Motorsports Racing For Life Offroad Team raised $20,000 for
three charities, The Malcolm Smith Motorsports Foundation, The Lance
Armstrong Foundation, and The Scleroderma Foundation. In January, 2008,
the 1967 Husqvarna and the 2007 Husqvarna, The Julia Lynn II, were
auctioned off at the Mid America Vintage Motorcycle Auction in Las Vegas,
Nevada, netting $20,000 for the charities. This money will help fund a college
scholarship program for the children at the El Oasis Children’s Orphanage in
Valle de Trinidad, Baja California Norte, the beneficiary of Malcolm’s 14 year
commitment to giving back to the orphaned children of Mexico.
John, Dick and the rest of the Racing For Life Team will be available for
photographs and autographs at the Sunoco Racing Fuels booth all day
Saturday, March 8, 2008.
