The Malcolm Smith Motorsports Racing For Life Offroad Team
Back From Montana  on Ride with the legendary JN Roberts
Helena, Montana. What a week it was!  More than 2,700 miles later, we had the time of
our life.  Starting out late Thursday, July 5, we headed north after pounding our fists in
the air to the shout of "ROADTRIP!"  As guests of JN Roberts, the hall of fame off road
legend and retired Hollywood stuntman, we were treated to daily riding on his 1,800 acre
working ranch just outside Helena, Montana.

After a late start, we traveled until we dropped, making it all the way to Pocatello, Idaho.
We would have stopped sooner, but every room along I15 was booked up on this holiday
weekend.  Pullng out early Friday morning, with only a few hours to drive, we pulled into
Helena right after lunch.  After stocking up on some barbecue fixins we headed to 7549 Lone Pine Road to be greeted by a herd of black
angus cows.  (Does anyone know where the angus is located?)

Getting ready to ride!
After getting our butts kicked, we headed to the guest ranch house where we started dinner,
barbecuing shish-kebabs.  We commenced to pig out on way too much food.  We bought for
much, we rolled around on the lawn, beyond stuffed.

Later that day, I went to use ol' Half Moon, the outhouse next door.  Luck would have it, I was
stung in the ear by a wasp protecting its nest.  Ouch!!!!  What would the trip be without a little
injury or two???!!!

The next morning, we slept in, getting geared up around 10 AM.  This time JN turned us loose to
find our way around his 18-mile course.  We jumped fences, passed elk and deer, just missed
the punji sticks, all the while JN toying us as he rode ahead out of our dust and hid while we got
lost occasionally.  Very, very funny!

Well, all good things must come to an end.  That afternoon, we
packed up, said goodbye, grabbed a few more shots, jumped in
our trucks and headed home.  Way too short, but great fun,
nonetheless.  Anyway, we did not want to wear out our welcome.

THANK YOU, JN AND JANET!!!

Packed and ready to go.  Moments later we pounded our fists tot

That night we stayed at a nearby motel only to be treated to the skankiest
night's sleep in my life.  The room was so bad that I will not even show
pictures of it.  JN, that was your recommendation.  Even still, we were in
Montana, riding on JN's ranch, and having the time of our life.

The next morning, up at six, we headed back to the ranch to greet bacon and
eggs, coffee and OJ.  We suited up and followed JN and Jimmy into the ranch,
first stop the motocross course.

After a few grueling laps on this 2 1/2 mile track, I soon realized my life depended on not falling as the ground was
littered with razor-sharp shale stone.  Kiss the ground and you're hamburger! Needless to say, I watched my step
while JN and Jimmy lapped me.

Later that day, we ran down to the local saloon to spend some time swapping stories and eating burgers.  Back in the
garage, we stopped for some group photos.  Janet invited us inside the main home to watch motocross and a special
DVD of a Hare & Hound Race won by JN 40 years ago, and filmed by another legend, Bruce Brown.
